Alphatron EVF – First look

Today I got my hands on a demo unit Alphatron EVF. I’ve been waiting for this Electronic View Finder  for a while since we really need it for our Sony F3.

I only spent 20 min with it but my first reaction is very good.  No, it is not as good as a Black n’ White pro viewfinder (not that I expected it to be) but it is better than other EVF’s I’ve seen in the last 2 years. The picture is pretty crisp and with the focus assist feature I see it as a useful tool for our F3.  It has 4 customizable  “f” buttons, SDI loop through as well as HDMI loop through.   My understanding is that it will also output the HDMI input over the SDI output which would be great.  WILL confirm this early next week.   It has tons of features like false color, zebra, markers, etc etc. It can be operated on either a Sony L/NP battery, or by a Lemo connector.

We get our own unit on monday so early next week I’ll post a thorough review on what I think.  Check back! 🙂

I work as Director of Photography based in sweden. One of my main strengths is finding the best possibilities for a chosen location, lighting it in a given time frame and producing images meeting, and hopefully exceeding the producers vision. After more than 15 years of working with the moving image I still enjoy the challange of getting “the shot” and seeing the light I own/run a production company in Malmo Sweden, www.pixeltouch.se
